• 3 Digit GUARDALA HANDMADE SP. DARK TRAD.

    $2,395.00Price

HERE IS AN ORIGINAL CONDITION 1980'S DAVE GUARDALA HANDMADE TENOR. IT IS MARKED "DG SPEC. DARK TRAD." HANDMADE, 3 DIGIT SERIAL PIECES IN ORIGINAL CONDITION ARE GETTING NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. THIS FACT IS ESPECIALLY SO FOR SPECIAL, ONE OF A KIND DESIGNATIONS SUCH AS THIS ONE. THIS MOUTHPIECE MEASURES .108" ON MY GUAGE.

THIS PARTICULAR MOUTHPIECE IS PART OF A COLLECTION OF MOUTHPIECES BELONGING TO VETERAN TENOR PLAYER, PAT PEREZ. THIS PARTICULAR MOUTHPIECE WAS AMONG THE VERY FIRST AVAILABLE IN TORONTO BACK IN THE MID 1980'S. PAT STILL USES HIS ORIGINAL 'STUDIO' MODEL.

EXAMINING THIS SPECIAL DARK TRADITIONAL WE SEE SOME OF THE FEATURES THAT ARE ON MICHAEL BRECKER'S PERSONAL GUARDALA, NOTABLY THE ROUNDING OFF OF THE STEP BAFFLE AND OPENING INTO A VERY DEEP CHAMBER. THIS TRADITIONAL MODEL STILL RETAINS A HIGH INITIAL STEP BAFFLE FOR A VERY POWERFUL SOUND. WHEN COMPARED TO A MORE TRADITIONAL DESIGN SUCH AS A SUPER TONE MASTER, THIS GUARDALA IS DEFINITELY EQ'D IN A 'BRIGHTER' AND MORE POWERFUL WAY.

DAVE GUARDALA WAS AN INNOVATIVE MANUFACTURER WHO BEGAN HIS BUSINESS BY HAND MACHININING BLANKS AND FINISHING THEM OUT WITH FILES. HE WAS ABLE TO ACHIEVE DIFFERNENT LEVELS OF BRIGHTNESS BY CHANGING THE INTERNAL GEOMETRY EITHER BY CHANGING CHAMBER SIZE OR THE HEIGHT AND LENGTH OF THE BAFFLE OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH. HE ORIGINALLY BECAME FAMOUS BY MAKING MOUTHPIECES FOR THE LIKES OF DAVE LIEBMAN, BILL EVANS, BRANFORD MARSALIS, TOM SCOTT AND OF COURSE, MICHAEL BRECKER.
