• 4 DIGIT GUARDALA HANDMADE TRADITIONAL BEBOP

    $1,895.00Price

HERE IS AN ORIGINAL CONDITION 1980'S DAVE GUARDALA HANDMADE ALTO. IT IS MARKED "DG T/B G" SERIAL 1678. EARLY HANDMADE, 4 DIGIT SERIAL PIECES IN ORIGINAL CONDITION ARE GETTING NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. THIS MOUTHPIECE MEASURES .088".

THIS PARTICULAR MOUTHPIECE IS PART OF A COLLECTION OF MOUTHPIECES BELONGING TO VETERAN TENOR PLAYER, PAT PEREZ. THIS PARTICULAR MOUTHPIECE WAS AMONG THE VERY FIRST AVAILABLE IN TORONTO BACK IN THE LATE1980'S. PAT STILL USES HIS ORIGINAL 'STUDIO' MODEL ON TOUR. PAT'S CAREER HAD HIM PLAYING NOTHING BUT TENOR FOR MANY YEARS, AND SO THIS EXCELLENT CONDITION ALTO PIECE HAS MORE THAN 95% OF ITS ORIGINAL GOLD PLATE.

EXAMINING THIS  MOUTHPIECE WE SEE SOME OF THE FEATURES THAT MAKE IT DISTINCTIVE. THIS MOUTHPIECE HAS A CONCAVE STEP BAFFLE, SLIGHTLY ROUNDED AT THE BACK, THEN, OPENING INTO A VERY DEEP CHAMBER. IT ALSO HAS SLIGHTLY UNDERCUT SIDES FOR A FATTER SOUND. ALTHOUGH DESIGNATED TRADITIONAL BEBOP, WHEN COMPARED TO A MORE TRADITIONAL DESIGN SUCH AS A MEYER NY, THIS GUARDALA IS DEFINITELY EQ'D IN A 'BRIGHTER' AND MORE POWERFUL WAY.

DAVE GUARDALA WAS AN INNOVATIVE MANUFACTURER WHO BEGAN HIS BUSINESS BY HAND MACHININING BLANKS AND FINISHING THEM OUT WITH FILES. HE WAS ABLE TO ACHIEVE DIFFERNENT LEVELS OF BRIGHTNESS BY CHANGING THE INTERNAL GEOMETRY EITHER BY CHANGING CHAMBER SIZE OR THE HEIGHT AND LENGTH OF THE BAFFLE OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH. HE ORIGINALLY BECAME FAMOUS BY MAKING MOUTHPIECES FOR THE LIKES OF DAVE LIEBMAN, BILL EVANS, BRANFORD MARSALIS, TOM SCOTT AND OF COURSE, MICHAEL BRECKER.
