Otto Link Tenor (1960's) Super Tone Master 5*
Here is an original Otto Link Super Tone Master 5* tenor mouthpiece. This mouthpiece measures .087” on my gauge.
The “Super” Tone Master is probably the only metal saxophone mouthpiece that needs no introduction. They began production in the 1950’s and have continued to this day with changes being made along the way. By the 1960’s, metal Otto Link pieces had a very consistent delivery: medium large chamber, undercut side walls, and a baffle shape that was almost continuous until the buyout by JJ Babbit in the mid ‘70’, the flat shelf. At a 5* opening, you can really get the most focus and flexibility with medium and harder reeds. My reference is always Walt Weiskopf who is able to get so much brilliance and flexibility by playing in a traditionally popular opening. This one still breaks at the facing at 24mm and has a nice original facing schedule.
Please note there are some flea bite marks on the inside of the side rails.
