Here is an original condition 1940's "Gold" figure 8 chamber tenor piece. This mouthpiece measures .074" on my gauge.
This mouthpiece is something of a novelty. Judging by the design, finish work, elaborate shank band and age, I am making the assumption that this mouthpiece was produced by the Woodwind Company NY. The shank in particular bears a strong resemblance to their Dick Stabile line.
What makes this mouthpiece so unique is its figure 8 style chamber which, in contrast to the wide open chamber design of the times, creates a unique squeeze in the throat that opens up into a larger chamber further back. As it is this piece has a nice warm focus but curiosity has me wondering what it would be like at a more contemporary size combined with its unique geometry.
Own a part of experimental mouthpiece design before the advent of all the 3D printed designs that exist today.
